In 2025, the US attracted almost 70 times India’s private AI investment. One visual puts the funding gap in perspective.

India’s rank tells only part of the story

Look first at the US circle, then at India’s. Both use the same scale. In 2025, the US attracted $285.88 billion in private AI investment, against India’s $4.09 billion. For every dollar invested in India, nearly $70 went to the US. The difference is large enough to make even a multibillion-dollar total look small.

India ranks sixth among the 15 countries shown, just behind Canada and France and ahead of Germany. These neighbours put India’s position in perspective: its funding is close to theirs, while the US operates on a different scale. Even China, second in this comparison at $12.41 billion, received only about one twenty-third of the US total. A ranking alone cannot convey that distance.

Funding can pay for computing capacity, research and people. These figures show where private capital went, but cannot tell us how effectively it was used. Government-backed funding is excluded, and investment alone cannot rank a country’s talent or model quality. For India, the chart establishes the scale of the financing gap; it leaves the question of what that money can achieve open.
